Improved stoves for local communities in India

With the support of the Endowment Fund, Sicame Group’s teams based in Chennai, India, came to the aid of local communities by proposing and supplying an improved cookstove solution.

Following a survey of the surrounding villages, the teams determined that almost half of them still use traditional methods of cooking and heating, which are dangerous to health and harmful to the environment.

Already implemented in the village of Venbakkam, the improved ovens are equipped with an insulated combustion chamber around and above the fire, enabling better combustion and faster boiling of water, to reduce wood consumption, carbon monoxide emissions and health risks in particular. Recognized by the Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) for this project, the teams received a CSR award in New Dehli in November 2024 in the Environment & Sustainability category.

This initiative demonstrates Sicame Group's sense of social responsibility and its commitment to supporting local communities, and will soon be deployed in three other Indian villages.
